Free lower third generator
Type a name, pick two colours, export a name plate that drops straight onto your timeline.
In short
A lower third generator makes the name plate that appears at the bottom of the frame when somebody starts speaking. This one runs in the browser: choose a plate, type the name and the credit line, set your colours and typeface, and export. MP4 works on any timeline; MOV with a real alpha channel, on a paid plan, composites over your footage with no box behind it. The free plan exports 720p at 30 fps with a watermark, which is enough to check the plate before you commit to it.

What you get
No After Effects project to open
The name is a text field in a browser. Changing it does not mean reopening a comp and waiting on a render.
One design, every name
Six guests is six exports of the same plate with different text, which is what makes a series look like a series.
Transparent when the background is not flat
MOV with a real alpha channel on a paid plan. Soft edges stay soft, which is what a GIF's one-bit transparency cannot do.
Any editor, no plugin
It is a video file. Premiere, Resolve, Final Cut, CapCut — all of them take a video file.
The animations
Type a name, set two colours, export an animated name plate.
How to generate a lower third
- 01
Choose the plate
A plain bar for an interview, a cascade for a title sequence, a handle plate where the point is the social account rather than the person.
- 02
Type the two lines
Name and credit. Keep the credit to four or five words — a lower third is read at a glance or not at all.
- 03
Export for your editor
MP4 for a quick drop-in, transparent MOV where the plate has to sit over footage that is not a flat colour.
What free gets you
Free plan
720p at 30 fps, one brand kit, and a watermark on the export.
Paid plan
No watermark, transparent MOV, up to 60 fps and up to 4K.
Formats
MP4 and GIF on any plan; MOV with a real alpha channel on a paid one.
Ratios
16:9, 4:5, 1:1 and 9:16 from the same edit.
Questions
What size should a lower third be?
Match the video it goes on: 1920 by 1080 for a landscape edit, 1080 by 1920 for a vertical one. Export at the ratio you are publishing rather than scaling a landscape plate down into a vertical frame.
How do I get rid of the black background?
Export MOV with a real alpha channel instead of MP4. MP4 is a rectangular video and has to fill the frame with something; the MOV carries genuine transparency.
Can I save my colours for next time?
Yes. A brand kit holds your colours, typeface and logo, and applies them to any animation in one step. The free plan includes one kit.
Is there a watermark on the free export?
Yes, and the free export is 720p at 30 fps. A paid plan removes it and raises the ceiling to 4K at up to 60 fps.
