About the Variant Selector animation

The overlay for showing that a product comes in more than one colour without cutting between three shots. Each stop wants its own photo, the same product in that colour on a plain background, and its own price, since a colourway is often priced apart. The swatches are fixed at sage, terracotta and charcoal, so this suits a range that can be read as light, warm and dark rather than an exact match; the ring is the accent and is where your colour goes. The kicker is the instruction, PICK A COLOUR or CHOOSE A FINISH.

Where it fits

  • Over a product Reel, on the beat where the colours are named.
  • In a Story that shows a range in one card instead of three.
  • As a lower-frame overlay in a store demo, timed to the tap through the variants.

Filling it in

Three square photos of the same product in three colours, shot the same way, so only the colour changes between stops. A price per colour, as the figure, since the swap is the point when they differ. The kicker is the instruction, PICK A COLOUR or CHOOSE A FINISH, in caps. The swatches are sage, terracotta and charcoal and do not change, so order the photos light, warm and dark. The ring colour is the selector.

Format and timing

Variant Selector is built at 640 × 360, a 16:9 landscape frame, the shape of a YouTube video, a stream layout and most editing timelines, and runs 4 seconds at 30 frames per second. It arrives in 2.5 seconds, holds for 0.7 and clears in 0.8, so cue it a beat before the moment it labels. Export it as an MP4 for a timeline or a feed, a GIF where video will not embed, or a MOV with an alpha channel to lay it over footage with nothing behind it. Renders go up to 4K, and the free plan exports at 720p with a watermark.

Questions about Variant Selector

Can I change the swatch colours?

Not from the fields. The three discs are fixed at sage, terracotta and charcoal. The photos carry the real colours, so pick three that fall roughly light, warm and dark and the swatches read as a key.

Does the ring stop on each colour?

Yes, for about eight tenths of a second each. It lands on the first with a bounce, then slides to the second and the third, and the photo and price change on each landing.
